Game mechanics are showing positive effects in establishing social capital to drive healthy behaviors or outcomes in conditions such as ADHD, PTSD, addiction and other mental health disorders. At the same time, evidence exists that video game addiction can have negative impacts on functioning and make players vulnerable to predatory tactics. Is it safe and ethical to create addictive games, even in the name of health? Is it possible to strike a balance?
